Liverpool Invincibles? Jurgen Klopp keeping players grounded after unbeaten start, says Georginio Wijnaldum

Liverpool remain the only undefeated team in the top seven tiers of the English football league system, but Georginio Wijnaldum isn’t feeling invincible just yet.

Manchester City’s defeat at Chelsea last weekend left the Reds as the sole remaining side in possession of that enviable record with 16 games of their Premier League campaign played.

But with 22 fixtures still to come, talk of matching Arsenal’s unbeaten 2003-04 season or the Preston North End side of 1888-89 is more than a little premature.

And Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t allow his players to even consider the possibility, according to Wijnaldum.

He said: “Invincible? No, not really. We know we have to do a lot to not lose games and even more to win it.

“We know we have to give a good performance every week to continue the run we are in.

“I don't really think we are invincible and if we think that we have a manager that would put both feet on the ground.”

Liverpool completed the first half of their European campaign in securing passage to the Champions League knockout stages with a 1-0 win over Napoli on Tuesday.

Now, attentions turn to a Premier League title race in which Klopp’s men have a slender lead, but Wijnaldum expects no drop-off in terms of intensity in the absence of continental competition until February.

“I don't see a big difference,” he added.

“Until February we play a lot of games so basically not a lot changes, the only difference is we play only in England but the amount of games is still the same.

“I don't know if it is a big difference, you just don't have to travel.”
