Liverpool injury update: Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson Becker latest news and return dates

If there is one positive for Liverpool during this poor run of form, it’s that they have an immediate chance to put things right.

After suffering three defeats on the spin heading into the October international break, things went from bad to worse for Liverpool on Sunday as they were beaten at home for the first time this season - by bitter rivals Manchester United nonetheless.

While the Reds created plenty of chances to have won the game, there will be an acknowledgement among fans that the visitors were well worth a result at Anfield.

With the league phase of this season’s Champions League continuing this week, Arne Slot’s side have the chance to bounce back from the loss as they face Eintracht Frankfurt away from home.

There is hope Ryan Gravenberch will be fit to travel after the Dutchman - who shook off a hamstring complaint to start against Man Utd - was forced off at the weekend.

That said, here’s a look at the latest Liverpool injury news.

Ryan Gravenberch

After being passed fit to start against Man Utd, Gravenberch twisted his ankle in a challenge midway through the second-half and required treatment.

While he tried to continue, he was eventually substituted in the 62nd minute and Slot has confirmed the Dutchman will be assessed ahead of the Frankfurt game.

“I took him off because he twisted his ankle,” Slot confirmed in the post-match press conference.

“Is he an injury concern? That’s what we have to wait and see tomorrow, but we have to play in two days again,”

Potential return date: October 22, vs Frankfurt (A)

Alexis Mac Allister

Gravenberch’s central midfield parter Alexis Mac Allister was in the wars against Manchester United as he required a bandage after being elbowed by Virgil van Dijk in the build up to Bryan Mbeumo’s goal.

It has been revealed why the goal was allowed to stand despite the Liverpool midfielder suffering a head injury, but it would appear his substitution was not related to the knock.

As a result, the Argentine should be in contention to face Frankfurt.

Potential return date: October 22, vs Frankfurt (A)

Alisson Becker

Liverpool will certainly be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker for the trip to Germany as the Brazilian is still on the mend after suffering a hamstring injury against Galatasaray.

Alisson is also set to miss the Premier League game away at Brentford on Saturday, though he could be available for selection against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup at the end of the month.

Delivering an update on the goalkeeper before the Man Utd loss, Slot said: "Alisson - he is not training, he is out.

“It's so difficult to say [when he will return], because the end phase of rehab can give positives and negatives, but he will not play this weekend or next week."

Potential return date: October 29, vs Crystal Palace (H)

Wataru Endo

Wataru Endo did not join up with the Japan squad during the international break.

The extent of the injury still has not been disclosed, though subsequent comments made by Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu have made it sound very much like a precautionary measure.

That said, Endo was left out of the Liverpool squad against United and it remains to be seen if he will be able to feature against Frankfurt or Brentford this week.

Potential return date: Unknown

Giovanni Leoni

Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni is facing up to a year out of action with a serious knee injury.

The 18-year-old centre-back was hurt on his first appearance at Anfield against Championship side Southampton in the third round of the Carabao Cup as he landed awkwardly following a late challenge in the 2-1 win.

He received treatment on the pitch and was eventually stretchered off, with subsequent tests revealing an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Slot has confirmed that Leoni will be on the sidelines for around a year having torn his ACL.

“He’s not in a good place, of course,” the Reds boss said. “He tore his ACL which means that he will be out for around a year.

“Being so young, coming to a new country, playing so well in your first game, it’s very hard to take the positives. You always try to look at the positive side and that is that he is still so young.

“He still has so many years to go after he recovers from a terrible injury like that.”

Potential return date: Late 2026
