Liverpool injury update on five players ahead of Nottingham Forest clash as key man absent

Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez were both missing from Liverpool’s group training session on Wednesday ahead of their fixture with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The defensive duo are, according to the Liverpool Echo, working to individual fitness programmes ahead of Saturday’s game at Anfield, where Forest will look to pull off a shock victory to end a 10-game winless run.

Liverpool go into the game off the back of a 6-1 win over Leeds, and Konate was key to that success. The match saw Trent Alexander-Arnold given the freedom to play in a defensive midfield position and create chances from a central area, and it was a plan that paid off because Konate’s versatility and athleticism allowed him to cover the right-back spot.

Joel Matip would likely be the player Jurgen Klopp turns to if neither Konate nor Gomez are available at the weekend, the Cameroonian on the bench at Elland Road on Monday night.

Also absent from Liverpool’s training session were midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, neither of whom were involved in the big win over Leeds.

But Luis Diaz did take part in the group session, showing no ill effects from what was his first appearance in six months on Monday night, the Colombian winger coming on as a substitute after recovering from a knee injury.
