Liverpool injury update: Florian Wirtz, Ibrahima Konate, Jeremie Frimpong latest news and return dates

Liverpool secured a huge three points on Sunday as Dominik Szoboszlai’s remarkable free kick delivered a narrow victory over Arsenal, but there were worrying scenes as Florian Wirtz and Ibrahima Konate both hobbled off.

Wirtz joined as a British record signing earlier this summer and has played well in his early appearances, but was forced off shortly after centre-back Konate did the same.

It was not all bad news, though, as Alexis Mac Allister returned from his injury to start, playing an hour.

Here’s all the latest Liverpool injury news...

Florian Wirtz

Florian Wirtz spent 89 minutes dictating the pace of Liverpool’s attack on Sunday before hitting the turn with what was cramp. He was replaced by Wataru Endo.

“It wasn't an injury, it was a 'welcome to the Premier League',” Slot explained to laughs.

“After 85 minutes, I don’t think he knew he could have cramp in so many different places, so that's what happened.”

Ibrahima Konate

Ibrahima Konate has not been at his best this season, but he looked to have returned to form as Arsenal visited Anfield.

That made his second-half injury all the more frustrating as he went down holding his thigh late in the match.

Speaking to reporters, Slot said the player believes he was suffering with cramp but his opinion may differ after a scan.

The Liverpool boss said: “He thinks it's cramp, and I have no reason to doubt him. Though some players think it's cramp, and then scans show it's more than that.

“So let's wait and see.”

Jeremie Frimpong

Jeremie Frimpong remains sidelined with a hamstring issue.

He had hit the ground running after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen, but he was sidelined after his first Premier League appearance.

After being forced into shuttle runs while defending Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, he was substituted with a sore hamstring.

“It wasn’t out of luxury,” Slot explained. “Jeremie Frimpong felt his hamstring at half-time and made a lot of sprints.”

Slot added in midweek, though, that he would be sidelined until after the September international break.

He did not return to the Liverpool squad for Monday’s visit to Newcastle, but, as his injury is not thought to be severe, he could soon be back in action.
