Dejan Lovren will return to Liverpool’s starting XI this weekend against Man Utd as Jurgen Klopp copes with yet another defensive injury blow.
Joel Matip is out for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on a broken collarbone sustained during the midweek win over Napoli, while Joe Gomez will be sidelined for a similar length of time as a result of a leg fracture.
That means Lovren is in line to start alongside Virgil Van Dijk at centre-half having overcome a concussion sustained in a recent training session.
Klopp could also be forced into further changes at the back after Trent Alexander-Arnold injured his foot on Tuesday.
The Scouse full-back is not expected to recover in time for Sunday, with James Milner his likely replacement given Nathaniel Clyne’s lack of match fitness.
Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke is expected to come back into contention after overcoming a groin issue.
