James Milner is set to feature as a makeshift right-back once again when Liverpool travel to West Ham on Monday.
The Reds’ No.7 missed out on the midweek draw with Leicester City as he served a one-match suspension as a result of his sending off against Crystal Palace.
And he is likely to return immediately to the back four after Jurgen Klopp ruled both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez out.
The manager said: “Both Trent and Joe are out. Trent is getting better and better, really close. I hope he’s in full training next week.
“That will be very good then, but not now.”
Klopp has had to make full use of his players’ versatility during Liverpool’s recent spate of injuries.
Both Milner and Jordan Henderson have featured at right-back, while Fabinho has filled in at the heart of the defence.
Asked about the importance of that flexibility, Klopp said: “I don’t hope we get more injuries because we already have enough, and we could do without suspensions!
“It’s how you build a squad, you know about these players who can do different jobs, and if you don’t have them then you need three players for each position and that’s a really big squad. If you think two is enough then one gets injured, it’s already not enough. You need all the others to do the job. So far we could deal with that.
“There was no doubt that we have internal solutions for different problems. Credit to the boys.”
Probable Liverpool XI vs West Ham: Alisson, Milner, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Mane, Firmino.
