Liverpool injury latest as Jurgen Klopp offers updates on Adam Lallana, Fabinho and Joel Matip

Jurgen Klopp says Adam Lallana will not be out for long despite the midfielder having missed out on making the travelling squad for the game with Red Bull Salzburg, though there is less certain news on both Fabinho and Joel Matip.

Meanwhile, Gini Wijnaldum and Dejan Lovren are both back from their minor knocks and could both start in Austria.

Klopp told LiverpoolFC.com : "Gini and Dejan are completely fine. Adam is not coming but will be back in training on Thursday. Under pressure we probably could have used him, but we didn’t want to make pressure. How I said, it’s a small thing.

"It would have been maybe a risk [to consider Lallana against Salzburg], I’m not sure, but we decided to leave him at Melwood and then he can train with the team from Thursday."

The German was unwilling to put a specific time period on the recoveries of Fabinho and Matip, the Reds' only other senior concerns.

The only thing that is clear at this stage is that neither will play a part over the hectic festive period.

On Fabinho and Matip, Klopp added: "There is no pressure from my side. It’s clear they will not be in before Christmas - not this year, actually. So why should we ask every five seconds if there’s some improvement or not?

"I know everybody involved is doing whatever they can. There will be a moment when somebody comes to me and tells me, ‘One week for him, two weeks for him’ and I’ll start telling you."

Liverpool need to secure at least a point in Austria to progress into Monday's last-16 draw, while they remained eight points clear of Leicester City in the Premier League title race after both sides won over the weekend.

After facing Salzburg, the Reds play Watford at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime, before most of the first-team squad head to Qatar for the FIFA Club World Cup.
