Liverpool injury blow confirmed by Jurgen Klopp ahead of Tottenham clash

Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota for Wednesday's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed the major injury blow ahead of his side's game away at Fulham on Sunday evening as he must make do without the Portugal international for the visit of Spurs.

Jota sustained a knee injury during Liverpool's 1-1 draw against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League on Wednesday evening and was considered doubtful for the trip to Craven Cottage.

However, the 24-year-old was left out of the squad to face the Cottagers and will play no part against Jose Mourinho's side in a top-of-the-table clash.

The bad news for the reigning champions is that Jota is expected to be out of action for at least two months.

With that said, the forward doesn't require surgery so his season is not over.

"It's worse than we first thought but better than what we (later) thought. The potential surgeons had a look at it and no surgery is needed, but he will be out for a while," Klopp told Sky Sports.

"We don't know exactly, but we think one and a half, two months.

"In the end it was strange, but we were happy when we heard the final diagnosis."

Jota only arrived at Liverpool from Wolves in the summer, but he's made quite the impact in a short space of time.

Nine goals across all competitions means he's the second top scorer in the Reds squad - behind only Mohamed Salah.

Jota joins the likes of Virgil van Dijk, James Milner, and Thiago Alcantara on the sidelines as Liverpool's already lengthy injury list grows.

There was a concern regarding Joel Matip as he was replaced at half-time in the Reds' 1-1 draw against Fulham with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho forming a makeshift defence.

However, Klopp has stated that he doesn't believe the defender's back problem is too serious.

"Matip had a slight back problem. I don't think it's anything serious," Klopp revealed, as per the Liverpool Echo.
