Liverpool injury blow as trio ruled out of Carabao Cup clash

Jordan Henderson is facing a race against time to be fit for Liverpool's Premier League clash against Arsenal next week.

Henderson was forced off during half-time of Sunday's 2-0 win at Chelsea having complained of a tight thigh.

The Reds skipper will be absent from Thursday's Carabao Cup tie along with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, who both missed out at Stamford Bridge through injury.

Henderson missed the final few weeks of last season and August's Community Shield due to a knee injury.

And Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders said: "Hendo, hopefully he will get back next week, but tomorrow for sure is too soon for Hendo.

"Maybe (back for Arsenal), yeah, hopefully. Hendo is a little bit difficult. Arsenal will be tight. He's hurt his right thigh."

The Reds are confident Gomez will be available for the visit of the Gunners, although Matip is, as expected, out for at least the next three weeks with a hamstring problem.

Of the Lincoln game, Lijnders added : “(For) Joe (it) comes too soon, he will train Friday with the team – that’s good news, to be honest.

“Joel will probably only come back during the international break; that will take some longer time, some more time."

With Gomez and Matip absent, Fabinho featured alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back against Chelsea.
