Liverpool injuries – Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konate and potential return dates

Liverpool kicked off the 2022/23 season in impressive fashion over the weekend with a victory over Manchester City in the FA Community Shield.

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez secured the win. Those not involved in the clash at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, or those who only played a few minutes, also got some crucial minutes in the legs in the 3-0 defeat to Strasbourg on Sunday.

However, with less than a week to go before the Premier League campaign gets underway, Jurgen Klopp remains without some key names.

Here's the latest update on the injured members of the Liverpool squad and when they can be expected to return to action.

Ibrahima Konate

There were worrying scenes in the defeat at Anfield over the weekend as defender Ibrahima Konate limped off in the second-half. He was substituted as a precaution and headed straight down the tunnel for further assessment.

Klopp, however, didn't appear too concerned in his post-match interviews and there is still a chance the Frenchman could be fit for Saturday's meeting at Craven Cottage.

"We don't know exactly yet on Ibou, but it doesn't look too concerning, so I hope we caught it in the right moment," the Liverpool boss said.

Alisson Becker

Goalkeeper Alisson has missed the majority of the Reds' pre-season games with an abdominal issue and while he's made good progress in his recovery, he wasn't risked over the weekend.

The Reds boss confirmed last week the Brazilian should be ready for the start of the Premier League season this week. Klopp said on Thursday ahead of the Community Shield: "Ali trained today more than the day before, he will definitely be available for Fulham, but not for the weekend."

Diogo Jota

It was less positive news on Diogo Jota, however, as the forward still remains sidelined having missed most of pre-season having aggravated a previous hamstring injury in Thailand. Klopp confirmed the Portugal international is still some way from a return to action.

He added: "The same for Diogo. He was not here with us, how could he play a football game? That will take a while, unfortunately."

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

A big injury blow in pre-season was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after he pulled up with a hamstring problem in the win over Crystal Palace. He will remain on the sidelines for some time which comes as disappointing news given his form in the earlier games.

"With Oxlade, it will take longer (than a few weeks), it is a serious hamstring injury," said Klopp. "A hamstring – we all hate this word but it is an injury and it happens from time to time and now Ox was the one. Does he need an operation? No."

Caoimhin Kelleher

Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has missed all of Liverpool's pre-season preparations through injury and still remains weeks away from a return. Klopp provided an update on his recovery last week.

He said: "Caoimh felt something after the international game, but everybody told him – the medical department there – it is fine and will be good after the holiday. He came back and in the first training (session) he felt it again. We checked it and it was not good.

"I think Caoimh will be another two or three weeks and then he should be fine."

Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones was a surprise absentee for the defeat to Strasbourg given his limited game time in the Community Shield victory. The Liverpool boss confirmed the midfielder will need to be assessed and they'll know more about the extent of his injury this week.

Klopp continued: "Curtis felt a little bit and we couldn't take any risks. We have to see. (There) was no impact or whatever, so that always makes it a bit, 'My god, what could it be?' We had no time; he felt it today and he wanted to play desperately, but then the medical department said no and that we needed to make further tests. We will do that tomorrow and then we will know more."

Kostas Tsimikas

Left-back Kostas Tsimikas missed the game against RB Salzburg last week, as well as both games over the weekend. The Greek international took a knock in training and was not risked for the remaining pre-season matches.

Klopp told LFC TV before the Salzburg game: "He got yesterday a knock, so he cannot play today. And all the rest, we will see later."
