Liverpool in 'advanced talks' over RB Leipzig's Ibrahima Konate in £40m transfer

Liverpool are being linked with a deal to sign RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate this summer.

According to The Athletic, the Reds are in advanced talks with the German side to sign the 21-year-old, and have made “significant progress” in recent days.

It has been claimed that the fee involved would be in the region of £40m, which is said to be his release clause with the Bundesliga outfit, and the club are working to finalise a deal shortly.

Konate is predominantly a centre-back, but is also capable of playing at right-back or as a wing-back.

Do you think Ibrahima Konate would be a good signing for the Reds? Let us know in the comments.

Leipzig are already set to lose one of their star defenders this summer, with Dayot Upamecano already agreeing to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

So far this term, Konate has made just 15 appearances in all competitions, and suffered an ankle injury in December which ruled him out for more than a month.

He was an unused substitute for both legs of the Champions League last-16 tie against Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp is likely to dip into the transfer market for a defender this summer, despite the hope being that Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all return to full fitness.

There is also a question mark over Ozan Kabak, with Liverpool having the option of signing him permanently for £18m at the end of the season from Schalke.
