Liverpool hoping for £33m boost as Reds await Premier League decision

Plans to bring fans back to stadiums could boost Liverpool's coffers by more than £33m.

The government hopes to bring fans back to stadiums in October and the Premier League is reportedly looking at allowing stadiums to operate at 40% capacity for the 2020-21 season.

It means Anfield’s capacity would be reduced from just over 54,000 to around 21,600.

Liverpool earned £84.2m from match days in 2018/19, the latest season for which figures are available.

Reducing that by 60% means the club would lose out on £50.5m worth of match day income.

However, given the alternative is no fans in the stadium at all, it’s perhaps better to look at it as £33.7m gained.

Whichever way you look at it, it means the club’s overall income will drop from £533.0m to £482.5m.

No fans at all though would leave the club with a turnover of £448.8m.
