Liverpool Hope University leads the way in helping students land dream job after graduation

Liverpool Hope University goes above and beyond to boost the employability of its students, according to a new independent survey.

Graduate jobs app Debut submitted a series of Freedom of Information requests to UK universities to find out how much they invest in their career services, as well as looking at average graduate salaries and employment levels.

And Hope led the way, with only one other institution spending more per student on career and employability pathways.

Meanwhile Hope - placed second in the UK list - was the only university in Liverpool to feature in the top 10 run-down.

Chris Biggs, Senior Careers Adviser within Hope’s acclaimed Careers and Employability Team, said: “Graduate jobs are notoriously competitive, with around 70 applications submitted for every position posted.

“But Hope’s graduate employment rates are enviably above the UK average - and there’s a reason for that.

“From the moment they arrive at Hope, until well after they graduate, we aim to guide students into their dream careers, covering everything from CV writing tips, to gaining valuable experiences through volunteering, placements and internships, as well as offering a full programme of career enhancement events.

“We foster close links with local businesses to identify any and all opportunities.

“We aim to personalise every individual student’s career pathway to make it as effective as possible.

“And graduates can access all of our Careers and Employability services for up to three years after graduation - which is something that many students take advantage of.”

Figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) show that 98.1% of Liverpool Hope University graduates were in employment or further education six months after graduating in 2017.

The Employability Hub offers drop-in sessions where students can chat to careers advisors while the Hope Works scheme supplies jobs for students on campus.

Chris adds: “We’re not letting the coronavirus situation disrupt our plans either. The Careers and Employability Team are still operating remotely.

“Meanwhile the online ‘My Careers Centre’ has a series of tasks, activities and quizzes to help you develop your career plan.”
