Liverpool hijack Celtic's Ben Davies move with bid for Preston North End defender

Liverpool look set to hijack Celtic ’s move for Preston defender Ben Davies.

Davies had been in talks with Neil Lennon hoping to do a deal for the centre back before the January transfer window shuts tomorrow night.

But it seems the English Champions are going to beat their Scottish Premiership counterparts to his signature.

Reports in England suggest Jurgen Klopp wants Davies as a short-term solution to his centre back shortage.

Former Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk has been a massive miss on Merseyside after suffering a bad injury in the derby against Everton earlier this season.

And Klopp has been short of options at centre back recently, with captain Jordan Henderson having to fill in.

And it;s understood they’ve offered North End a few of around £2million to nab Davies, who is out of contract in the summer.

Celtic have been tracking the left-sided central defender for a while.

And he was seen as the ideal candidate to help shore up a defence in which big money loan signing Shane Duffy has struggled alongside Kristoffer Ajer, who has been the subject of interest from the continent.

But it looks like they’ll be forced back to the drawing board after Liverpool made their move.
