Liverpool took control of their Champions League quarter-final with Porto after a confident 2-0 win over Porto at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side found the breakthrough just five minutes into the contest when Naby Keita’s strike from the edge of the box deflected in off Oliver Torres.

The home side doubled their lead before the half hour mark when Roberto Firmino latched onto Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.

Having hammered the Portuguese giants 5-0 in the last 16 stage of this competition last season it looked like a similar rout could unfold on Merseyside.

But Porto had their chances to claim a valuable away goal, with Moussa Marega denied by Alisson twice before blazing over the bar in the second-half.

Mohamed Salah was perhaps lucky to remain on the pitch after a high challenge with his studs raised on Danilo Pereira – only for no foul to be given after a VAR review.
