Liverpool hero makes stunning Wilfried Zaha transfer claim amid Arsenal interest in Palace star

Liverpool have been urged to make a move to try and sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace this summer.

The Palace ace's future has been the subject of much speculation this summer, with Arsenal heavily linked with a move to sign the Ivory Coast international.

However, Unai Emery's reported budget of just £45million means a deal is unlikely, with Palace's valuation of Zaha considerably more than that.

Zaha has spoken of his desire to play Champions League football, and former Liverpool striker John Aldridge says his old side should take advantage and move to sign the 26-year-old to boost their title hopes, after just missing out on a first Premier League triumph as Manchester City finished one point above them last season.

In his Sunday World column, Aldridge said: "Wilfried Zaha is the one I think he [Jurgen Klopp] should go for.

"With Daniel Sturridge leaving the club and his huge wages coming off the weekly bill, it opens up the opportunity for [Jurgen] Klopp to sign an out-and-out goalscorer who could offer something different if one of the front three is injured or out of form.

"[Wilfried] Zaha has given Liverpool some real problems in the last couple of years and Klopp's ability to turn talents of his type into consistent performers has to make him the kind of player who could thrive at Anfield."

Aldridge's comments come amid a recent claim from former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o that Mohamed Salah would be a "good fit" for Barcelona, adding that if he has the opportunity to move to Spain, he should do so.

Meanwhile, recent reports have linked Liverpool with a move to re-sign Philippe Coutinho, who left the Reds in January 2018 to join Barcelona, where he has struggled to cement a place.

But Aldridge feels that Liverpool should not blow their transfer budget on bringing the Brazilian back to Anfield, and that the money would be better spent on trying to sign Zaha this summer.
