Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman has claimed that Steven Gerrard could be a future Tottenham manager.
The Liverpool legend has just led Rangers to a first Scottish Premiership title in ten years, guiding the Gers to a 55th crown overall in Scotland in just his third season at the club.
This is Gerrard's first honour as a manager after previously working as Liverpool's U18 coach before taking the job at Rangers, where he has helped to end Celtic's domination in the Scottish top flight over the past decade.
As a result of the job he has done north of the border, Gerrard has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the future, with his former club Liverpool mooted as a potential destination for him.
But McManaman has suggested that Tottenham could be a logical move for the 40-year-old as he hailed the job done by Gerrard in Scotland.
As reported by the Daily Record, McManaman told horseracing.net: "He’s gone to Rangers and lived that life which is incredibly, incredibly intense, more intense probably than a lot of big Premier League teams, and in three years he’s hunted down Celtic, caught them up, and shot right past them.
"He does really well in Europe, had a great run last year, hasn’t been beaten this year. His record this year shouldn’t be talked down just because people have a disrespect for Scottish football. I think what he’s done this year is absolutely amazing."
McManaman was asked if he could see Gerrard managing Liverpool in the future, or whether he would need time at another club first.
In reply, he said: “Yes I could, of course I could. I mean all it depends on what Steven wants, but if Jurgen [Klopp] wants to manage Liverpool for the next 10 years and Steven gets an offer to manage, I don’t know, a Tottenham or a Man City, he might feel that’s more palatable than waiting for Liverpool.
"It’s entirely up to him. But I think his dream job would be to manage Liverpool and he wouldn’t want to spoil that.
"I think if he did have any offers he would always take that consideration about whether it tarnishes or stops him from getting the Liverpool job."
