Arsenal played some good football at times against Liverpool at Anfield.
But at the end of the day it was the same old story for the Gunners against the Reds.
It is now nine games without a win against Liverpool in the Premier League for Arsenal, with the three goals they conceded at Anfield on Saturday adding up to 20 they have conceded in their last six visits to Merseyside.
The Gunners were pinned back early on in the first half, but did have chances of their own on the break, notably through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and record signing Nicolas Pepe.
In the end though, they were well beaten, with Joel Matip opening the scoring before half-time and Mo Salah adding two more in the second period to secure a 3-1 triumph, with the Arsenal goal scored by substitute Lucas Torreira.
And Matip delivered a damning assessment's of Arsenal style of play during that first half at Anfield.
Speaking to Spy Sports after the win, he said: "It was a tough game, they played some good counter attacks, but a lot of time we were quite good.
"If a team with these types of players and this quality is standing on their own box with eight players, I think that’s hard for every team, you need some time to get some spaces.
"They were so quick. With this pace, you cannot defend every situation but there were a lot of moments where we did it ok. Of course we had to be patient, if you give a team like this so much space it will be really difficult."
The "eight players behind the ball" comment is sure to rile some Arsenal fans.
