Liverpool hero has message for Jurgen Klopp about former West Ham man after win against Arsenal

Former Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson has provided his verdict on goalkeeper Adrian after an indifferent display in the club's 3-1 win over Arsenal.

The Reds cruised to victory at Anfield thanks to goals from Joel Matip and a brace by Mohamed Salah, before Lucas Torreira's late consolation goal for the Gunners.

But Adrian was far from composed in the Liverpool goal as he produced an erratic performance, which almost led to an embarrassing goal as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang narrowly missed the target in the second half after the keeper had come off his line.

Adrian was Liverpool's hero in the Super Cup penalty shootout win over Chelsea earlier this month, having not been expected to feature much in the first team after signing as a free agent following his departure from West Ham.

But the injury to Alisson Becker in Liverpool's first game against Norwich City has seen Adrian thrust into the spotlight immediately, and despite a relatively solid start, Lawrenson now insists the 32-year-old is the Reds' main worry at the back.

"The goalkeeper worries me,” Lawrenson said on LFC TV.

"I just think in the last two games, [he] made the mistake at Southampton when he shouldn’t have been under any pressure and he got away with a big one [against Arsenal].

"He should have let (Virgil) Van Dijk just sort that situation out and he came running off his line. He just worries me a bit and I know he’s experienced and everything but there’s a reason why nobody else was taking him.

"I get that (Adrian's inexperience with Liverpool) but do you know something, that decision he made [against Arsenal] doesn’t matter whether you’ve been there a minute or a thousand minutes with somebody, it’s his decision making.

"Obviously there was a mistake at Southampton as well and I think the manager will obviously always, always back him because Alisson’s probably not fit until after the international break. But he just worries me a little bit."
