Liverpool hero Emile Heskey on Anfield life, competing with Robbie Fowler, and how the current squad will be coping

Liverpool fans will remember Emile Heskey fondly from his stint on Merseyside between 2000 and 2004.

Heskey spoke with Blood Red's Guy Clarke about his time at Anfield, during which he won five major trophies, including being part of the 2001 treble-winning side, as part of an exclusive podcast which you can hear by clicking here.

The ex-England international, who played 62 times for his country, made a total of 223 appearances for the Reds, scoring 60 goals.

Meanwhile, he played 18 times against Liverpool throughout his career, but never scored against them.

Heskey outlined the competition that he faced within the squad, with other strikers at the club around the same time including Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler.

French forward Nicolas Anelka was another who Heskey had to compete with, though the pair developed a partnership that Heskey remembers as one he enjoyed being a part of.

The chat concludes with a discussion of the difficulties that the current Liverpool squad will be facing while the coronavirus stops them from training and playing matches as normal.
