Liverpool hero Adrian speaks out on the penalty incident against Chelsea and his 'crazy week'

Liverpool new signing Adrian enjoyed a frantic and fantastic full debut for the Reds on Wednesday night as he became the hero during a European Super Cup shootout win over Chelsea.

Olivier Giroud opened the scoring for Chelsea, before Sadio Mane bagged goals in the second half and early in extra-time to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead.

However, Adrian was momentarily the villain of the piece as he gave away a penalty for bringing down Tammy Abraham, with Jorginho duly dispatching the spot-kick.

The former West Ham United keeper opened up post-match on the incident, with the 32-year-old explaining that Abraham was looking for a penalty, though he did admit there was probably contact.

"To be fair I tried to stop. The attacker was intelligent. He was looking for that. I think I touched him and he touched me. It doesn't matter. We need to enjoy tonight," Adrian told BT Sport.

But Adrian was soon the hero as Liverpool won 5-4 in the penalty shootout as Abraham provided the only miss when the Reds' keeper stopped the shot with his legs.

Adrian added: "Welcome to Liverpool. It was a crazy week.

"I'm really happy for the team and to play here.

"I'm happy for the fans. It was a long game and I'm delighted."
