Liverpool hero Adrian's fairy tale story captured perfectly by Spanish headline

Spanish newspaper AS struck the perfect note with their headline hailing Adrian's penalty heroics that secured the UEFA Super Cup for Liverpool.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed a spectacular revival in fortunes over the past week-and-a-half having been drafted in by the Reds to replace the Club Brugge-bound Simon Mignolet.

Having seen has contract expire at West Ham United, where he had lost his place to Lukasz Fabianski, Adrian had been back in his home city of Seville, training with an individual goalkeeping coach when he got the call from Anfield.

While the free agent would have probably just been relieved to be back in the Premier League, and now at one of the leading clubs rather than a mid-table outfit, it's likely that he will have resigned himself to fulfilling regular bench duties in an understudy role for first choice Alisson .

However, an injury to Brazil's number one in Liverpool's first Premier League game of the season, a 4-1 home win over newly-promoted Norwich City, catapulted Adrian back into action and having made a substitute appearance against the Canaries, he made his full debut in the Chelsea match.

Having saved Tammy Abraham's spot-kick to win the trophy for the Reds, Adrian was predictably front page news back in his native Spain.

AS – the country's second-biggest sports newspaper in terms of circulation – went with a splash of “Adrian – Del Paro a la gloria” which translates into English as “From unemployment to glory.”

A sub-head added: “The Spanish goalkeeper who 10 days ago was without a team makes the decisive stop for Liverpool in the penalty shoot-out.”

Quite the start for the Reds rookie with Spain's number one sports newspaper Marca also declaring: “Adrian – El nuevo heroe del Liverpool.”

You probably don't even need the translation for that but it means “The new hero of Liverpool.”
