Liverpool have five-year record on the line as stunning statistic emerges

Liverpool kicked off their month of December fixtures in the best possible way on Wednesday evening at Goodison Park.

Jurgen Klopp secured three points at the home of Everton for only the second time during his spell as manager, guiding the team to a comprehensive 4-1 victory under the lights.

A further eight fixtures will follow between now and the end of the month, with the Reds in Carabao Cup, Champions League and Premier League action.

Liverpool will be aiming to maintain their impressive goalscoring record in the games ahead while keeping pace with Chelsea and and Manchester City in what looks set to be a three-way tussle for the title.

The priority for this month will be continuing to grind out results in the Premier League, with a Champions League dead rubber with AC Milan and Carabao Cup quarter-final with Leicester also on the horizon.

Klopp's side will take on Wolves this weekend and then face further tests against Aston Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds and Leicester City in the top-flight.

December is often a month in which potential title challengers lose their or way or reinforce their threat to the rest of the division, with Liverpool aiming to achieve the latter.

Fortunately for Klopp's side, the Reds have managed to hold their own over the festive period in recent seasons and are currently on a remarkable unbeaten run of 30 Premier League games in the month of December.

The last league match Liverpool lost in the final month of the year was a 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth during the 2016/17 season, a game that Cherries came from 3-1 down to win in spectacular fashion late on.

Liverpool bounced back from this setback on the south coast with four wins from five in their remaining December fixtures, including triumphs over Everton and Manchester City.

And no side has been able to get the better of the Reds in the league during this crucial period since Bournemouth's win five years ago to the day - a trend Klopp will be hoping can continue during the current campaign.
