Liverpool have been given a new option in three positions amid Jurgen Klopp rotation

As the Reds progressed into the next round of the Carabao Cup by beating Norwich City by three goals to nil on Tuesday night, the focus was on Liverpool's youth prospects.

"The kids did exceptionally well," Jurgen Klopp said after the match. "All three, physically really strong and that’s maybe the biggest surprise, that they could go 92 minutes."

The German was referencing the likes of Kaide Gordon and Connor Bradley, but many are inclined to forget that Curtis Jones is still just 20 years-old.

The Scouse academy graduate is now recognised as an established performer for the Reds, but he's still incredibly young in comparison to most of his teammates.

As Gordon and Bradley assumed the spotlight, Jones was quietly deployed as the team's deepest midfielder against the Canaries, operating as a no.6 of sorts until Tyler Morton was introduced at half-time.

His role as a holding midfielder drifted under the radar, and it captures why he could become a perfect player for Klopp as he continues to mature.

The Reds boss has made no secret of his desire to manage a small squad, and that becomes possible by acquiring players who are versatile and capable of covering across a variety of different positions.

The likes of James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum have performed all over the pitch at Anfield, with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson deployed as central defenders last season due to the club's injury crisis.

Jones arguably fits that adaptable mould to an even greater extent. Despite his youthful age, he's been used everywhere by Klopp since being promoted into the Liverpool first team.

The youngster played as a no.6 and a no.8 against Norwich, with the latter commonly deemed to be his most natural position. Moreover, Jones was used as a forward against Crystal Palace and AC Milan.

He is developing into a remarkably flexible talent with a naturally offensive skill set, and one who Klopp will value as he continues to favour a small squad over countless options.

Jones is very much at the beginning of his evolution as a player yet already, he's offered an insight into the complete footballer that he could become at Anfield.
