Liverpool have £137m player more valuable than Jadon Sancho or Bruno Fernandes

The January transfer window is open and all of Europe’s top clubs are considering their situations around the halfway mark of the season.

Regardless of respective league positions, transfers are on the minds of those at the top of club hierarchies, whether they be short-term fixes or long-term plans.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both out injured, fans believe defensive recruits should be the priority is clear for Liverpool.

Liverpool understandably have no interest in selling any of their prized assets while they are attempting to defend their Premier League title.

But regardless, the Reds’ hierarchy may be interested in estimates of how much each player is worth.

According to the CIES Football Observatory , Liverpool’s most valuable player is not one of their vaunted attacking trio, but Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is currently worth £137million (€151.6m).

The website’s algorithm believes that Alexander-Arnold’s talent, performances, youth and five-year contract extension that he signed in January 2019 add up to make him the third most valuable player in the world.

The 22-year-old defender, who is under contract until 2024, is worth more than Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes (€151.1m), Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe (€149.4m) and Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho (€148.3m).

Alexander-Arnold is third on the list, behind only Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford (€165.6m) and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland (€152m).

Liverpool’s other most valuable players are, unsurprisingly, Mohamed Salah in 12th place at €134m, 14th-placed Sadio Mane €123.8m, Andrew Robertson (€93.5m) and Roberto Firmino (€87.4m).

Van Dijk (€83m), Diogo Jota (€82.1m), Alisson (€65.7m) and Gomez (€57.7m) are also in the top 100, underlining the strength of Liverpool’s squad.

Interestingly, Lionel Messi is only 97th on the list with an estimated value of €54m, due to only having six months left on his Barcelona contract.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo (€47m) is only 131st, with his Juventus contract set to expire next summer.
