Liverpool handed massive advantage in title race after Kevin de Bruyne injury against Tottenham

Liverpool have been handed a big boost in the race for the Premier League title after Kevin de Bruyne needed to be substituted after picking up an injury against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Belgian international was a crucial cog for Manchester City's record breaking side last season and pushed Mohamed Salah for the PFA player of the year award but has been plagued by injury this season.

The 27-year-old has already missed 15 Premier League matches through injury this season and now Pep Guardiola must be concerned that his charge will be missing for some of the end of season run-in.

The reason Mauricio Pochettino selected Paulo Gazzaniga instead of Hugo Lloris against Man City

The former Chelsea midfielder kicked the ball into the stands before taking to the floor to clutch his leg. He then sat on the pitch before hobbling off to be replaced by Fernandinho.

The injury put a dampened what was looking a positive afternoon for Manchester City who took the lead through Phil Foden.

Sky Sports pundit Steph Houghton believes Guardiola's side played exactly how they needed to.

She said: "They had to start bright and they certainly did that. To score within the first five minutes is a great start and they really took the game to Tottenham and got the goal they wanted. How many times have we seen that this season, where Bernardo is getting the ball of Kyle Walker, getting onto his favoured left foot. Aguero pops up in that position time and time again and what a great first goal in the Premier League for Phil Foden.”
