Liverpool handed major Champions League final boost by UEFA decision

Liverpool have been handed a boost ahead of the Champions League final - by being handed the home dressing room.

The Reds were originally nominated as the away team for the huge clash in Madrid but UEFA have opted to switch things round for security reasons.

It means Jurgen Klopp's side will benefit from the much larger and more luxurious facilities usually awarded to home side Atletico Madrid at the modern Wanda Metropolitano.

Opponents Tottenham will now be relegated to the much smaller away dressing room as Klopp's side enjoy a more comfortable build-up to the huge game in the Spanish capital on June 1.

The move comes hand in hand with the decision to give Liverpool fans the south side of the stadium with more Reds fans expected in Spain than their Premier League counterparts.

“Before we took our decision, we made an evaluation between the away fans, the Spanish police and the city of Madrid,” Wanda Metropolitano Stadium manager Fernado Fariza told Sky Sports News.

“We took into account the number of fans of both of the finalists, the metro lines and the fan meeting points in the city.

“Taking into account all these issues, the final decision was that Liverpool fans should arrive at the south stand and they will have all their tickets in the south stand.

“On the other hand, Tottenham supporters will arrive at the north stand and they will have all their tickets in the north stand.”

Both teams have been allocated 16,613 tickets at the 68,000-capacity stadium.

Liverpool are making their second Champions League final appearance in succession having lost out to Real Madrid last year.

They were the away side on that occasion and will be hoping their designation as the home team will help them achieve the opposite result this time around.
