Liverpool handed injury boost with Alisson and Thiago Alcantara primed to return vs Sheffield United

Liverpool could be boosted by the return of Alisson and Thiago Alcantara to face Sheffield United on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp has refused to rule the pair out for Saturday’s game at Anfield.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been out for four weeks with a shoulder injury sustained in training.

While Thiago missed the midweek victory against Ajax in the Champions League after a knock following a heavy challenge from Richarlison.

“I don't know. We have training after the press conference, so we will see who is out there. You can only be in contention if you are in training,” Klopp said when quizzed on the condition of his No 1 and the Spanish midfielder.

“Look, in my situation, I don't want to rule anybody out until someone tells me and so far, nobody told me. Maybe I should have listened better!”

Klopp will definitely be without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kostas Tsimikas and Virgil van Dijk, with the Dutch centre-back’s long-term status still unclear after last week’s knee injury following Jordan Pickford’s challenge in the Merseyside derby.

“I can understand people are interested in Virgil,” Klopp said. “He is OK, it doesn't make sense we give a schedule every day. Surgery will happen at the appropriate time.

“We don't even want to know to be honest. Recovery will take time that is clear. All people are different.

“It won't make sense to say (when he's back). Everyone copes differently so there is no need for it.”
