Liverpool handed injury boost as Jurgen Klopp makes Thiago Alcantara declaration before Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on four Liverpool players ahead of the Premier League clash with Arsenal while declaring new signing Thiago Alcantara is "in contention" to start the game.

The Reds boss explained that Joe Gomez is set to re-join training today in a welcome boost for the World and Premier League champions since they have been devoid of senior centre-back options.

With that, Joel Matip is still sidelined but teenage centre-half starlet Billy Koumetio is back in training with the squad.

Captain Jordan Henderson, meanwhile, is not yet ready to join in the action with the manager declaring that the Arsenal game on Monday was "too early" for the midfield general.

Klopp said: "Joe [Gomez] should be back today in training, Billy the Kid [Koumetio] is back in training, Joel [Matip] is not, Hendo [Henderson] is not yet either as this game is, for sure, too early."

Elsewhere, Thiago is could to start the game against the Gunners after replacing Henderson in the second half of the match against Chelsea and impressing all those watching.

The decorated former Bayern Munich star officially made the move to Anfield just one week ago today.

"We will see," Klopp replied when asked if the Spain international would start the match at Anfield with kick-off set for 8pm.

"We have a few days to train and some boys have to recover from last night so we will see how we set up against Arsenal.

"I have an idea, but why should I make a decision today when we have until Monday?

"He is in contention for sure. Let's see."

Meanwhile, Klopp was asked about the future of Rhian Brewster and why the young frontman was not included in the squad to face Lincoln City on Thursday night.

"It should not surprise you, transfers and these kind of things we don't really speak about. No transfer rumours and nothing else. He was not in the squad, right and you can make of it what you want. There's nothing really to say about it and no news."
