Liverpool handed injury boost ahead of Newcastle after training update

Liverpool have been handed an injury boost ahead of Thursday’s clash with Newcastle United after Curtis Jones returned to training.

The 20-year-old has been sidelined by an eye injury he sustained last month and has been unavailable for the Reds’ last nine fixtures.

His return will be a relief to Jurgen Klopp who will be relying heavily on his squad with five fixtures still to be played by the end of December.

Roberto Firmino also appeared in training ahead of the weekend’s clash with Aston Villa, but wasn’t included in the match day squad.

The Brazilian forward is still working his way back to full fitness after picking up a hamstring injury during the 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid in November.

However, he could be back in contention for the visit of Eddie Howe’s side.

Firmino’s return is another huge filip for Klopp with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane leaving for the African Cup of Nations next month.

19-year-old midfielder Tyler Morton who started in the recent 2-1 win over AC Milan, and fellow youngster Kaide Gordon have also been training with the first team once again ahead of the clash with the Magpies.

The Reds will be confident of making it eight successive wins in all competitions when they welcome relegation-threatened Newcastle to Anfield on Thursday evening.
