Liverpool handed injury blow for Arsenal clash as £76.5m star sidelined on international duty

Liverpool have been handed a huge injury scare ahead of their clash against Arsenal later this month.

Sadio Mane went off injured during Senegal’s 1-1 World Cup Qualifier draw with Tongo on Thursday evening, replaced in the 28th minute as he looked to be in considerable pain.

The 29-year-old, who is valued at £76.5million on Transfermarkt, landed awkwardly after colliding with a Togo player when attempting to win a header, appearing to suffer a knock to the hip or ribs.

The Reds have suffered from a host of injury problems in recent weeks, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Joe Gomez, James Milner and Harvey Elliott all missing their 3-2 loss to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claimed that the injury to Brazilian frontman Firmino was serious, meaning he is likely to miss the game against the Gunners on November 20.

“Bobby (Firmino) is not good news with a serious hamstring injury, really unfortunate," the German said.

"We don’t know exactly how long he will be out but it will be not now after the international break directly. We have to work on that."

Arsenal have struggled against Klopp's side in recent years, particularly at Anfield, losing their last five trips to Merseyside, conceding 18 times in the process.

Head coach Mikel Arteta will be hoping his side, who have conceded just four goals in their last eight Premier League games, can continue their fine defensive form against the Reds.

A win for the Gunners would take them above Liverpool, who are just two points above them in the current standings.
