Liverpool handed huge injury boost as player makes his return ahead of crunch Chelsea clash

Chelsea will be up against it on Sunday as they bid to make it four league wins on the spin with victory at Anfield.

Looking in serious doubt of missing out on the top four only a few weeks ago, three successive victories for Maurizio Sarri's side has seen them jump into third with five games of the season remaining.

However, they do face a tricky end to the season with away trips to Liverpool, Manchester United and Leicester City on the agenda.

The Blues did in fact record a 2-1 win over the Reds in the Carabao Cup back in September, although Jurgen Klopp's team will be much stronger this time around as they bid to win the Premier League title for the very first time.

Liverpool currently lead Man City by two points at present but they have played one game more than their rivals, who also play on Sunday as they travel to Crystal Palace.

The good news for Liverpool ahead of the game is that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got around an hour under his belt on Tuesday against Bury in a behind closed door friendly at the club's training base.

The midfielder suffered a serious knee injury 12 months ago against Roma in the Champions League and has yet to feature for the first team since.

Oxlade-Chamberlain did play for the club's U23 side against Derby County at the start of March but was substituted prior to half-time due to a hamstring issue.

It remains to be seen if the ex-Arsenal man will be part of Liverpool's 18-man squad at the weekend, yet it is a step in the right direction for the 25-year-old after a wretched year.

While there are question marks over the midfielder ahead of the clash, Joe Gomez could be named in the squad after taking his place on the bench in Tuesday night's Champions League win over Porto.

The England international has not played since suffering a broken leg against Burnley in December.
