Liverpool handed fresh injury scare as Sadio Mane taken off for Senegal

UPDATE 10:15pm: Senegal coach Aliou Cisse has revealed that Sadio Mane’s injury is not a serious one. Full story.

Liverpool have been handed a fresh injury scare after Sadio Mane went off injured during Senegal’s clash with Togo.

The Reds forward was replaced by Boulaye Dia after just 28 minutes at the Stade de Kegue after looking in some discomfort.

Mane appeared to collide with a Togo defender in the process of going up for a header inside the box, and while severity of his potential injury is not yet known, it may have come as a result of an awkward landing.

It will be hoped the move to take Mane off was just a precaution, with initial speculation suggesting it may have been a knock to the hip or ribs.

The news will not be welcomed by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, with his side already set to be without Roberto Firmino for a number of weeks after he suffered a "serious" hamstring injury.

The Brazilian was replaced after a rather brief cameo in the win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last week.

Klopp said that the injury was "not good" and they will wait to see whether Firmino makes a quick recovery to be back available as soon as possible.

“Bobby is not good news with a serious hamstring injury, really unfortunate," said Klopp in his most recent pre-match press conference.

"We don’t know exactly how long he will be out but it will be not now after the international break directly. We have to work on that.

While Naby Keita, James Milner, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott all missed the defeat to West Ham United at the weekend.

Liverpool return to Premier League action against Arsenal at Anfield a week on Saturday before taking on Porto in the Champions League four days later.
