Liverpool handed 'final nail in coffin' after Newcastle's win over Southampton

Former Newcastle United striker Michael Owen believes Liverpool have been dealt a final nail in their Champions League coffin. Jurgen Klopp's Reds won nervy encounters with fellow Champions League hopefuls Tottenham, as well as Fulham, to keep pace with the Magpies and Manchester United.

However, with a four point gap to Erik ten Hag's side in fourth and a six point gap to Eddie Howe's men in third, having played a game more, Owen believes results last weekend have all but ended the race for the Champions League.

The race for European football is still not over mathematically, with the Toon needing seven points to put the result beyond any doubt. Nonetheless, that relies on Brighton winning every game between now and the end of the season, while six points for the Magpies should seal the deal, barring any crazy results to impact goal difference.
