England under-21 manager Lee Carsley has revealed that Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has a minor groin injury.
Jones missed his side’s clash with Slovenia on Thursday night, a game in which Carsley’s troops surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw.
Goals from Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer saw the Young Lions race into a 2-0 lead after just 15 minutes of their Euro 2023 qualifier.
But they failed to hold on during a disappointing second half at the Arena Petrol with Mark Spanring and Dusan Stojinovic both on target for the hosts.
But the main talking point after the game was the absence of Jones, with Carsley revealing that a tight groin in training on Tuesday was the reason behind his absence.
The former Everton midfielder also revealed that the Reds Academy graduate will now be assessed ahead of Monday’s trip to Andorra.
He said: “He had a bit of tightness in his groin area. We will never put players in position where we will risk them.
“We’ll monitor the situation looking towards Andorra but we will not be putting him under any pressure to play.”
Jones has enjoyed a strong start to the new season with Liverpool and has produced some of his best performances in red in recent weeks.
The midfielder scored in the 3-3 draw with Brentford and was excellent in the 5-1 win over Porto in the Champions League too.
Liverpool return to Premier League action a week on Saturday away at Watford.
