Liverpool handed Andy Robertson injury scare as defender misses Scotland game

Liverpool will keep a close eye on the fitness of Andy Robertson after the left-back was ruled out of action for Scotland.

Robertson played 120 minutes on Thursday as Scotland beat Slovenia on penalties after a 1-1 draw to clinch their place in next summer's European Championships.

The defender revealed afterwards he was suffering from a tight hamstring having skippered his country to their first major finals tournament in 22 years.

And he was missing from the 22-man squad that took on Slovakia in their UEFA Nations League clash on Sunday afternoon, one of eight changes made by Scotland boss Steve Clarke.

Clarke, a former Liverpool assistant manager, had admitted on Saturday that Robertson was unlikely to feature in Trnava.

"We enjoyed the celebrations as we should do after such a long wait, but we trained this morning and it was a good training session, getting ready for the game," he said.

"We have one or two knocks and niggles. Andy Robertson will be the most doubtful."

While there is no suggestion Robertson has suffered a major issue, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping no chances are taken over the defender's fitness with Scotland in action again on Wednesday in Israel.

Liverpool are already without first-choice defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold for next Sunday's Premier League visit of Leicester City.
