Liverpool great Steven Gerrard inducted into Premier League Hall of Fame

Liverpool great Steven Gerrard has become the latest star to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

The Kop icon takes his place following a combined vote of supporters and a Premier League panel from a 23-person shortlist.

Gerrard becomes the first former Reds player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, which was recently launched to celebrate the league's finest players since its inception in 1992.

He is one of Liverpool’s greatest players and captained the club to Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup glory during his Anfield career.

The Huyton-born Reds Academy graduate represented the club on 504 occasions across 17 seasons in the top-flight, scoring 120 goals and registering 92 assists.

Reacting to his induction, Gerrard wrote on Instagram: “Excited to share that I have been inducted into the @PremierLeague Hall of Fame Thanks to everyone who cast their votes.”

While former Liverpool captain Paul Ince said of Gerrard: “He had a desire to say I want to get to the first team.

“That was the first thing that made me think this kid is going to be a player. His shooting, when you think about some of the goals he scored.

“Inside the box, outside the box, his timing of runs. He would always score important goals. Goals that actually mattered.”

Speaking about Gerrard back in 2012, Sir Kenny Dalglish said: "He has certainly made a huge contribution to the club but he wouldn’t be far away from being mentioned as the best player [in Liverpool history]."

While Graeme Souness said three-years later: "For me personally, I think he is one of the greatest players that have ever played for the football club, would certainly walk into any Liverpool team and Liverpool over the years have had some great, great players play for them."

Gerrard joins Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Frank Lampard and Dennis Bergkamp in being inducted into the official Premier League Hall of Fame this year.
