Liverpool great Sir Kenny Dalglish shows his appreciation for the NHS by joining in Clap for our Carers

Liverpool great Sir Kenny Dalglish has taken to the streets to show his appreciation for NHS workers.

Dalglish recently praised the "absolutely brilliant" NHS staff after being released from hospital following his coronavirus diagnosis.

The Kop icon was admitted to hospital last Wednesday for treatment for an infection after suffering from a gallstones problem.

But following a routine coronavirus test, which came back positive, the former Scotland international was treated for the virus before being released from hospital on Sunday.

Since then, Dalglish has been recovering in self-isolation at home, but took to the streets to show his appreciation for the work currently being carried out by NHS staff.

For the last four weeks now, people around the country have been opening their doors and windows on Thursday evenings to show their appreciation for NHS staff with a period of clapping.

The show appreciation was launched by Dutch Londoner Annemarie Plas, who had taken inspiration from witnessing similar scenes around Europe.

Dalglish was joined on his step by wife Marina, daughter Kelly and another member of the family.
