Liverpool-born chef Ellis Barrie, who is known for his appearances on BBC Two’s Great British Menu , is set to open his first restaurant in the city, alongside his brother Liam.
The Barrie brothers have earned a growing reputation for excellence since launching Anglesey restaurant Marram Grass, and are now set to open Lerpwl on the Royal Albert Dock.
Pronounced ‘Ler-pool’, the restaurant aims to recognise the brothers’ links to Liverpool and North Wales, with Lerpwl fittingly translating as the Welsh name for the city.
Lerpwl will take inspiration from its surroundings with an interior to reflect the industrial nature of the dock , which was once at the heart of Liverpool’s booming global trade industry.
The restaurant will seat 45 downstairs and an exclusive private dining experience upstairs with a private kitchen and dedicated chef for up to 20 people.
Also on the mezzanine level will be a DJ booth which will provide the restaurant’s eclectic soundtrack on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Ellis Barrie, co-owner of Lerpwl, said: "The Marram Grass represents the community and sustainable farming links in Wales, sourcing as much as possible locally to the restaurant to play on our natural surroundings.
"Lerpwl is all about the trade links Liverpool has had with the rest of the world...yes we’ll be using Welsh produce but we’ll be looking around the world to complement our welsh ingredients.
"For example, we can’t wait to smother our home-grown aged swine with Italian white truffle...I already know it will taste amazing!"
Lerpwl is expected to launch at the Royal Albert Dock’s Britannia Pavilion on February 4, 2020.
