Liverpool goalkeeper Andy Lonergan sends classy message to former Reds player

Andy Lonergan made his first appearance for Liverpool on Sunday after being brought in as goalkeeping cover for the Reds' pre-season tour of America.

Lonergan, who is currently a free agent, impressed during his 45-minute run out against Sevilla at Fenway Park.

The 35-year-old shot-stopper pulled off a neat save after Gini Wijnaldum was dispossessed on the edge of the box.

Since his surprise arrival at the club, which was announced earlier this month, Lonergan has been quiet on his social media accounts.

His wife Jennifer on the other hand couldn't hide her admiration for her goalkeeper husband as she excitedly tweeted throughout his debut.

But Lonergan refrained from sending a single post - until he reached out to former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.

In a post to Twitter, Kirkland revealed he had completed his first week in a rehabilitation centre.

The North Wales facility, Parkland Place, offers therapy for people "with experience of alcohol addiction, drug addiction, gambling addiction and other harmful behavioural conditions".

The 38-year-old said he wasn't looking for sympathy after letting his fans know on Twitter that he had checked in for rehabilitation at the North Wales facility but just to show to people that it was fine to "ask for help".

Lonergan sent a classy message to the former England international, he replied: "All the best mate. Proud of you".

The ex-Leeds United keeper will be looking to impress once again on Thursday as Jurgen Klopp's side take on Sporting at Yankee Stadium.
