Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian speaks out on his injury and hands the Reds a timely fitness boost

Liverpool have been a handed a potential fitness boost ahead of tomorrow afternoon's game away to Southampton.

Despite Reds boss Jurgen Klopp revealing in his pre-match press conference this morning that goalkeeper Adrian was a doubt for the game at St Mary's, after picking up a freak ankle injury after Wednesday night's UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea in Istanbul.

The stopper has now delivered his own update on his injury, admitting he is hoping to be fit enough to start the game on the South Coast.

Speaking to the club's website , the Spaniard said: "Today I feel much better.

"It was a strange, weird situation because we were celebrating between us and one guy jumped from the crowd and started running.

"I think he slipped in front of us and also the security with him and made me a tackle from the side. It was a bit of a strange situation but I feel much better today and I hope [I'm] ready for tomorrow."

Before the Reds' hero from Wednesday night added:  "Yeah, I think I have many chances.

"I feel mentally ready and I also hope today with the treatment of the ankle it's going to be much better.

"But I'm very optimistic to start playing tomorrow again."

The 32-year-old sustained an ankle injury during the celebrations of the Reds' UEFA Super Cup victory. A supporter invaded the pitch during the celebrations, but slipped and took out Adrian, leaving the former West Ham man on the ground.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was less than impressed with the incident and has called on UEFA to take action.
