Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian's display deemed unworthy of rating in his native Spain

Stand-in goalkeeper Adrian's performance in holders Liverpool's Champions League exit to Atletico Madrid was deemed not worthy of rating by two major newspapers in his native Spain.

The 33-year-old, playing because of regular number one Alisson's hip injury, was punished for a poor clearance when substitute Marcos Llorente scored a crucial away goal.

With the Reds surrendering a 2-0 lead on the night to lose 3-2 after extra time, Seville-born Adrian was ungraded by both AS and Marca.

Unlike the conventional marks out of 10 widely used in the UK, including the ECHO, Spanish sports reporters tend to employ a star marking system.

In AS, two-goal hero Llorente top-scored with four stars (or spades as they use), while Jan Oblak and Felipe Monteiro got three stars.

The only Liverpool player to be awarded such a score was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah were all given two stars with the remainder of the side getting one – apart from Adrian – who along with Diego Costa, who was hooked on 55 minutes for the visitors, got none.

It was a similar story in Marca. Nobody was given four stars from them but again Oblak and Felipe were awarded three for Atletico, along with subs Llorente and Alvaro Morato.

Once more, Oxlade-Chamberlain was the only Liverpool player to get three stars but following suit, Adrian and Costa were again unmarked.
