Liverpool go top of the table as summer signing Melkamu Frauendorf scores in Everton rout

Liverpool U18s have at least momentarily gone top of the U18 Premier League North standings after they demolished Everton U18s 0-4 at Finch Farm this morning.

Goals from Melkamu Frauendorf, Layton Stewart (though there is some suggestion this will go down as an own-goal for Reece Welch), Lee Jonas and Max Woltman put Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's youngsters 4-0 ahead before half-time.

Two goals in two minutes put Liverpool 2-0 ahead inside 18 minutes before they pressed ahead and continued to fire in the goals, clinically taking their chances in a game even more than the scoreline suggested in the first 45 minutes.

The opener was bagged by Frauendorf, who was signed from Hoffenheim over the summer.

The German youth international, who was also wanted by Bayern Munich when he arrived at Anfield, scored during pre-season but this was his first competitive strike.

A quieter second half played out with no more goals scored, Liverpool being content with their first-half advantage and Everton keen for the scoreline not to get any worse.

Isaac Mabaya and Oakley Cannonier - the latter of whom was the ballboy who provided the ball for Trent Alexander-Arnold's quickly taken corner against Barcelona - both came on as second-half substitutes for the Reds as Liverpool closed the game out.

Dominic Corness also entered the fray in place of Luke Chambers late on in second-half stoppage time.

Man City U18s travel to Newcastle this afternoon, while Middlesbrough are currently playing away at Blackburn Rovers.

Should either Man City or Middlesbrough not pick up three points, Liverpool will remain top of the table.

Liverpool U18s host Newcastle next Saturday at The Academy before travelling to Wolves at the start of November.

The Reds' U23s take on Chelsea in Kirkby today, with Rhys Williams, the defender who made his Champions League debut on Wednesday night against Ajax, among the starting XI.
