Liverpool’s hopes of UEFA Super Cup glory have been boosted by the news that their supporters are likely to significantly outnumber their Chelsea counterparts at Istanbul’s Vodafone Park next month.
The Reds were initially handed 4,957 tickets for the fixture, which will see the Champions League and Europa League holders meet in the Turkish capital on August 14.
With those seats having sold out fast, the Merseyside club lodged a request for further tickets with European football’s governing body.
UEFA subsequently boosted Liverpool’s allocation by 1,016 tickets - taking their share of Besiktas’ ground up to 5,973 in total.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have requested 1,314 tickets for a game that represents Frank Lampard’s first opportunity to win silverware since his appointment.
Vodafone Park’s capacity has been reduced from 41,000 to 38,000 for next month’s meeting between the two Premier League heavyweights.
All remaining seats were designated for a sale to the general public through UEFA’s official website, though many of those have appeared for sale on social media platforms.
