Liverpool given FSG reminder and Dejan Lovren explains Sergio Ramos revenge

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Friday, 21 August.

Derby reminder, one decade on

The fixture list for the new Premier League season pits Liverpool against Merseyside rivals Everton on October 17.

That could yet get moved, but as it stands the derby clash will take place 10 years to the day since the Reds last lost to the Blues.

Coming just a couple of days after FSG - then NESV - won the right to buy the club from former owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks, the 2-0 defeat by Everton pointed to the scale of the task that faced John W Henry and his group.

Roy Hodgson infamously declared his team had put in one of their best performances of the season and, not long after, he was out of a job.

A decade later and Liverpool have become champions of Europe, then the world, and finally, most recently, Premier League champions.

Lovren explains Ramos injury motivation

Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat in Kyiv back in 2018 was a tough one to take, not least because the Reds had looked the better side up until Mohamed Salah’s injury, caused by Sergio Ramos dragging him to ground.

Then-Reds team-mate and close friend Dejan Lovren has explained how he took revenge on Ramos while on international duty , setting out to clatter the Spanish defender after a UEFA Nations League match for Croatia.

“Luka Modric tried to reduce the tension between me and Ramos, and we were facing Spain together with the Croatian national team, and I deliberately hit him with my elbows and told him that we have drawn now,” Lovren, now of Zenit, told Egytian TV channel Sada El Balad.

“I respect Ramos as a player and what he does for his team. He has won a lot of titles, but on the other hand, he does some behaviour that I do not like and harm the players.

"I do not want to make a big story, but I think that what Ramos did was intentional to injure my friend, so it was It is time to pay for what he has done.”

Loans on the way for Reds

Up to 10 younger players could be headed out on loan this summer, with clubs around Europe and further afield keen on the fringe and youth stars at Anfield.

The Echo reports “significant interest” in goalkeeper Kamil Grabara from European sides , while left-back Tony Gallacher could move to MLS.

Anderson Arroyo and Taiwo Awoniyi do not have work permits, while Ben Woodburn has interest from Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and England.

Herbie Kane, Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips and Liam Millar are all expected to spend another season out on loan, too, along with a handful of others.
