Liverpool given all-clear to complete Austria pre-season training camp despite quarantine fears

Liverpool will be free to complete their pre-season training camp in Austria despite changes to the UK's list of countries which require a period of quarantine.

Jurgen Klopp's squad have been training in the region ahead of the new domestic season which begins on September 12.

The Premier League champions were already forced to alter their plans to hold a pre-season camp in Evian after France was added to the list of countries that require a 14-day period of quarantine.

There were fears that Liverpool would face a similar situation after the UK government opted to remove Austria from the 'travel corridor' list from 4am on Saturday, August 22.

But Standard Sport understands the Reds have been allowed to apply for an exemption with the Football Association because of scheduled friendly matches against RB Salzburg and Stuttgart.

New signing Kostas Tsimikas, who arrived in a £11.75 million deal from Olympiacos earlier in August, has joined up with his new team-mates.

Liverpool discovered on Thursday that they kickstart the defence of their Premier League title away at Leeds United after the fixtures for the 2020/21 season were confirmed.

After the visit of Leeds, it's a trip to London to face Chelsea before Arsenal come to town the following week.

The first Merseyside derby, at Goodison Park, is on October 17.
