Liverpool get troubling new injury issue as star absent from squad to face West Brom

Naby Keita is back on the sidelines again, as the Liverpool midfielder misses out on Sunday's clash against West Brom.

The Guinea international returned to the Reds side for last weekend's 7-0 rout against Crystal Palace, and he completed the full 90 minutes at Selhurst Park.

It was hoped that this would represent a huge step forward for Keita, who has been beset by a series of injury issues throughout his career at Anfield.

But Liverpool have confirmed he is absent for the game against Sam Allardyce's Baggies due to a fitness issue.

Jurgen Klopp told Sky Sports: "He is, again, a little bit injured, unfortunately. Nothing else to say."

Keita has been replaced by Curtis Jones in the Liverpool starting XI, with Mohamed Salah also coming back into the team in place of Takumi Minamino.

With Keita's issue is a blow, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri have offset that issue for Klopp by returning to the bench.

Both players had been absent for over a month, with Milner's last appearance coming in the 1-1 draw at Brighton and Shaqiri's last outing coming as a substitute in the draw at Manchester City.

Liverpool XI : Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Matip, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Jones, Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Subs: Kelleher, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Minamino, Shaqiri, Origi, R Williams, Phillips, N Williams.

West Brom XI: Johnstone; Furlong, Ajayi, O’Shea, Gibbs; Phillips, Sawyers, Gallagher, Diangana; Robinson, Grant

Subs: Button, Peltier, Ivanovic, Harper, Krovinovic, Kipre, Grosicki, Pereira, Austin.
