Liverpool get set to welcome Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi back to Melwood on Monday

Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri will report back to Melwood on Monday as they begin their pre-season schedule at Liverpool.

Shaqiri was withdrawn against England in the UEFA Nations League on June 9 with a minor injury and will be assessed by the club's medical staff when he returns for duty.

Meanwhile, Origi will also head back to the club's West Derby training complex to bolster the attacking options ahead of the first pre-season friendly against Tranmere on Thusday.

The pair were part of the Reds' successful Champions League campaign last season with Origi netting the decisive winner in the 2-0 triumph over Tottenham in Madrid on June 1.

The Belgian frontman also netted twice in the 4-0 win over Barcelona in May as the Reds turned around a three-goal deficit from the first leg to book their place in the final.

Origi has spent much of the summer training alongside performance coach Nicky Holender in Los Angeles in an effort to arrive at Melwood in peak condition ahead of a busy few weeks.

With Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah still absent given their respective involvements at the Copa America and Africa Cup of Nations, the next few weeks represent a decent chance for Origi to cement a place.

The Reds stepped up their pre-season training at Melwood as the European champions began their ball work on Sunday.

On Sunday, the footballs were brought out, with the squad running through their drills that were overseen by manager Jurgen Klopp and assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

The focus was on possession throughout the afternoon with the players encouraged to operate with one and two-touch moves designed to enhance close control at a high tempo.

Liverpool revealed on Friday who would be heading back to training, with new signing Sepp van den Berg part of the pack.

The 17-year-old defender has immediately joined up with the senior set-up and has been at Melwood across the weekend.

On Saturday, head of fitness and conditioning Andreas Kornmayer put the squad through their paces ahead of what will be a busy summer and typically gruelling campaign.

James Milner was winner of the lactate tests on Saturday as the evergreen midfielder once more displayed his supreme stamina levels.

Origi and Shaqiri will make it an 18-man squad at Melwood on Monday and could feature at Tranmere on Thursday night.
