Liverpool get late decision to make Premier League trophy lift even more special

Liverpool will be able to celebrate their first league title in 30 years with the families of the squad in attendance, after the Grounds Safety Advisory Group reversed their decision.

On Monday, the Premier League gave special dispensation for the Reds to have around an extra 200 people inside Anfield for tonight's game against Chelsea.

The Reds will of course get their hands on the Premier League trophy at full time with a special stage constructed on the Kop for Jurgen Klopp and his players to mark the moment.

However, the GSAG rejected the request from the club to allow more people than the allocated 300 inside the stadium for the match and subsequent trophy lift.

The ECHO understands the decision has since been overturned and families and some football staff will be allowed entry to witness the club's first title triumph since 1990.

It is understood family members of Klopp's squad will watch the game from the executive boxes wearing face masks and socially distancing from anyone not in their immediate household.

Chair of Liverpool City Council's GSAG, Wendy Simon, Chair Wendy Simon was unable to grant the additional personnel inside the stadium because of the absence of written permission from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on Tuesday evening.

That confirmation has now arrived meaning the families of Klopp's team can watch the events unfold in person on Wednesday night.
