Liverpool get double injury boost but Alisson news not what Jurgen Klopp wanted

Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson are both available for Liverpool’s Champions League crunch with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

But Alisson Becker remains sidelined with the goalkeeper having also been ruled out of Monday’s Merseyside derby at Everton.

Henderson has been absent since injuring his hamstring during the closing stages of the 1-0 defeat at Atletico in the round of 16 first leg three weeks ago.

The skipper resumed full training on Sunday and is now in line for an instant recall as the Reds aim to extend their reign as European champions.

“Hendo is ready,” said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. “Whether we do that, I don’t know – maybe I know but I don’t say!

“Ali will not be ready, that’s for sure. And he won’t be ready for Monday.”

Alisson missed Saturday’s Premier League win at home to Bournemouth after injuring his hip during training last week, and may not be available again until after the international break.

Robertson also missed out at the weekend as a precaution, but is expected to return at left-back against Diego Simeone’s side.

And the defender said: “Friday in training I overstretched my hamstring, and we had a couple of interesting conversations.

“I thought I was fine but Millie went on be man of the match so everything was fine!

“Millie could play in goal and keep a clean sheet for us – he can play any position.

“When he goes into left-back or right-back he shows what a good player and pro he is.”
